In this video I’m unboxing the Devil Forge. I paint it with the refractory coating rigidizer for the ceramic blanket, put it all together and fire it up for the first time. Note: I’m not a professional and this is the first time I have done anything with a furnace. I did have the gas turned up a bit to high when I was firing it. So if you try this at home don’t do what I did in this video. No hair was lost in the making of this video. This will be a series of videos showing all of the products I purchased to get started backyard pouring of bullion and art pieces. Today I'm going to prepare my Devil Forge refractory wool with the rigidizer it comes with. This is necessary to extend the life and efficiency of your furnace. It is a simple, yet necessary process. The instructions say it takes 24 hours to dry, but mine took almost 48 hours because of the humidity in my state. Yours may vary as well, use your best judgement. I've had the Devil-Forge FB2M since I got started, and have used it for a while now...happily. I recently got the Devil-Forge FB2Mb and wanted to see how it fared against the FB2M. In this video I pitted them against each other in a time race to melt 1KG of copper to see the results. I was blown away at the speed of the FB2Mb, but my baby(the FB2M) still put up a good fight and won't be going anywhere anytime soon. The FB2M has a price tag of $570, but comes pretty much turn key. Which is why I bought it when I was a total rookie... I didn't know what I was doing, and it offered me the piece of mind to open it out of the box and start melting. The FB2Mb has a price tag of $370, but has a little more assembly to get started out of the gate. They are both beautiful pieces of equipment, and I would recommend both of them! You have to have diversity in your back pocket, which they both provide. I am used to the FB2M, the fully refractory cemented model, which takes a bit to warm up but holds it heat for a LONG time. That makes it great for long burns or hot melts that your looking to achieve. It can really handle the heat, and hold it! The FB2Mb, surprised me with the speed that it had, it hit very high temps in minutes, and melted 1KG of copper in 10 minutes and cooled down quickly! It is an awesome furnace and Devil-Forge should be proud of both of these models, they are amazing!!! Check out their website... 🤍 I am not paid by or directly affiliated with them whatsoever... I got my 4KG #devilforge using a link from 🤍bigstackD Casting , with inspiration from 🤍RobFindsTreasure , so I didn't waste any time setting it up! I can't wait to get to melting! I went with the 4KG model from a suggestion, because the 10KG is kind of overkill for right now. Maybe in the future. I got he refractory wool model, as it has more space inside, and works just as well. Check the devil forge refractory furnace on eBay, that's where I got it! What do you guys want to see melted?! It was time to replace the ceramic wool in my Devil-Forge FB2Mb furnace. I purchased some wool and rigidizer from SIMOND STORE off Amazon. Both items together cost $113 after tax. I will include the links below, there is enough that I can rebuild the furnace again once I burn this one up. It was pretty easy to replace and only took me about an hour. I let the rigidizer cure for over 24 hours and then melted some copper wire to take it for a test drive. Today I'm preparing my crucibles for their first melt. The crucibles will be baked at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for an hour, then put into the furnace with borax to put a "glaze" on the inside of them, and to help cure them for melting. I'm using my Devil Forge furnace, a size #1(1KG), and a size #3(4KG) crucibles. We have made this test to show from practical side that our DFPROF burner in more efficient then our standard burner DFP. This is not theory no calculations no numbers. We made this test fast way as we could to show that it`s true. Don`t waste your time to write about calculations we don`t have enough time to prove this in movie with calculations.
