So let’s see how the two compare. Starting with the BMW, it’s powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six that can produce 510hp and 650Nm of torque. It drives all four wheels, weighs in at 1,865kg, and the price starts from £85,000. Then we have the Audi. It’s packing a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 under the bonnet, which produces 450hp and 600Nm of torque. But while the BMW has the Audi licked for power and torque, the RS4 is lighter, weighing in at 1,745kg. It's cheaper too - costing £70,000. Thanks to 🤍 for lending us his C63! We’ve got our hands on the all-new Audi RS4 Competition, and it’s going head-to-head against its key rivals - the BMW M3 Touring, and the Mercedes-AMG C63 Estate! Okay, it might be the old C63 Estate, but while we don’t have the latest gen in the UK yet, this is the best we could do! So let’s see how the three compare. Starting with the Audi, it’s powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbo V7 that can produce 450hp and 600Nm of torque. This power output may be the same as the old car, but it comes with a retuned gearbox that should help it both shift quicker and improve its launch! Power is sent to all four wheels via the gearbox, and it weighs in at 1,745kg. It also rolls up with a price tag of around £85,000. Alongside it we have the BMW. It’s packing a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six under the bonnet which is good for 510hp and 650Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and it tips the scales at 1,865kg. It’s a bit more pricey than the Audi, costing around £87,000. Then finally we have the AMG. It’s housing a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet that can produce 510hp and 700Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels only, and it weighs in at 1,800kg. When new it costs around £78,000, but given it’s the old gen, you can’t even buy one anymore! So will it be a clean sweep for the more powerful BMW? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE! In the world of fast estate cars, everyone is talking about the new BMW M3 Touring and Mercedes’ newly unveiled hybrid four-cylinder AMG C63 Wagon. This has clearly annoyed Audi, which has arguably been king of practical performance ever since the RS2, which it developed with Porsche back in the 1990s. So, to redress the balance, Audi has poached a bit of BMW’s naming strategy and produced the RS4 Avant Competition. Despite its twin-turbo V6 not having more power or torque this RS4 is quicker, doing 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds, and faster, with a maximum speed of 180mph. But even more interestingly it promises to be greater fun in the corners, thanks to a recalibrated quattro Sport differential, new steering, stiffer anti-roll bars and a lovely set of three-way adjustable coilovers. This new RS Sport Suspension Pro allows the car to be dropped by up to 20mm which lends it an incredibly aggressive stance and should be great on track. But the worry is that it will also compromise the ride quality on the road. After all this is meant to be a practical and useable performance car that you could taking shopping when you’re not setting lap times. To find out if it’s an improvement or now just a bit niche, Henry Catchpole puts the latest fast Audi Avant through its paces around town, in the hills and on the amazing Ascari race track in Southern Spain. #Audi’s Best just got Better! The mid-side power wagon gets zero power increase, but instead gets upgrades where it really matters for emotion and dynamics! Back in Spain, arrived in style in Iron Man’s original Mark 3 armor, it’s time for the full drive of the new #AudiSport #RS4 Competition! A Sportier RS4, one that seems to remedy to main complaints of the original car. Big changes include a more emotional exhaust with significant sound deadening of 8kg removed, Including manually adjustable suspension, and a more exciting soundtrack. The engine is still the 2.9l V6 bi turbo making 450BHP and 600NM. Yet we have an improved 0-60 of 3.9 seconds, 0.2 faster, firstly thanks to the upgraded 8 speed tiptronic. This has whole new software to make it much more emotional and shift faster in Dynamic Mode especially. The updated Quattro sport differential, though still 85% to the rear, is more aggressive in giving power. The biggest change is in suspension, with the RS sport suspension pro with stiffer springs - an option that will be standard in the UK. I’ll take you through what you can adjust with the cool tool box - essentially rebound, dampening and ride height! The height can be adjusted to be 10-20mm lower than the standard car. Additionally, we also get a new Sport anti roll bar on rear and front which are stiffer, and dynamic steering with specific tuning and a fixed ratio of 13/1 - this really shows me how serious Audi are in fixing their past mistakes! The car gets lighter competition wheels, which surround a revised braking system good for stopping up to two car lengths earlier. I’ll take you through a look under the skin of all the above changes in the Competition version including all the unique design elements inside and out, and then drive it on road in the mid-level suspension settings. Spoiler: it’s an emotionally charged car, that really made me smile! Can it make use smile on the same roads the C63 made us cry?! Let’s find out today!! The Audi RS4 Quattro is one of the ultimate cars in snow, but can the best of the EV world, the Tesla Model 3 Performance shake up the order? HELLO EVERYONE. Yes, well I have said it now so I better stand by it. After having had both the RS4 and the RS6 on loan - I genuinely believe that unless you are in a willy waiving contest - the RS4 ticks more boxes for the money. I am still on the hunt for my next daily car so the hunt continues.. Super busy with filming at the moment so videos are a little more sporadic. That changes today, as I’ll take you through the full history of the “true” #AudiSport wagon, leading to this facelift! The RS4’s birth is linked to the birth fo Audi Sport itself, going back to the very first RS named car. And that was the Audi 80 RS2. It was a bold statement by Audi at the time, a sports wagon built with the help of Porsche - you’ll see the 911 wheels and brakes and much more - it was even built in Zuffenhausen and features Porsche parts throughout, along with heavy modifications to the suspension and more. The highlight was the engine, Porsche tuned Audi’s most powerful 2.2 litre 5 cylinder engine to produce 315BHP. 0-60 was a quick 5.4 seconds, and the 0-30 MPH was clocked faster than the McLaren F1!! A whole 5 years later came the first RS4 B5, before any RS6 was created, this was the fast Audi wagon. It had a 2.7 twin turbo V6 from Cosworth, with 380 BHP and a 0-60 of 4.9 seconds. It was so popular, Audi doubled their original production estimates for this car. In 2005, came the natural V8 version in the B7. This time available in Sedan and cabriolet versions too. The V8 made 420BHP, healthy even by today’s standards, though with a similar 0-60. It also had a clever asymmetrical torque control Quattro system, giving 40% power on front and 60% on the rear. It was also the only one in class to offer carbon ceramics at the time, and the last ever to be manual only! 2012 Saw a return to Wagon only in the B8, still a natural v8 but this time paired to a dual clutch gearbox, it has the same horsepower as our car today at 450 BHP, though the S-Tronic of course made the 0-60 faster. It was the last time we will see a V8, and to my eyes, the most muscular #Audi #RS4 ever it just looks like that dude in the gym forever stuck in bulking season! Fast forward to our pre-facelift, B9 first version. Once again linking to Porsche like the RS2, by sharing the then new V6 twin turbo engine, and linking to the B5 with the V6 element too. It’s a hot V too, so a very responsive natural feeling engine. Whole car is 35kg lighter thus than it’s predecessor. Quattro system as with the B8 goes up to 85% to the rear, essentially giving some nice rear wheel feeling, and the Gearbox is a torque converter this time. Our new car, essentially the same formula. Few changes, much like rivals AMG and M did with their facelifts. Main news, Its lighter with sound deadening removed along with other tweaks, giving over 100kg difference now vs the old V8. The gearbox is apparently, snappier, with new software. And we have a host of tech changed inside too. But is it enough vs the M3 and C63S, and where does it stand vs the RS6?
